Leave of absence
You may apply for a leave of absence by submitting a written application within the re-enrolment deadline for the next semester, provided you can demonstrate an important reason for which you are not responsible (Section 16 of the Worms University of Applied Sciences Enrolment Regulations).
Please support your application with the relevant documents or evidence. A leave of absence is generally not possible during the first academic semester.
Form
- Long-term illness (the illness and its expected duration must be certified by a doctor)
- Additional voluntary work placement or period spent abroad, with appropriate evidence
- Pregnancy/parental leave (confirmation from the attending doctor or birth certificate)
- Cases of particular social hardship
Student Services will inform you of the decision (approval or rejection) in writing following assessment.
Please ensure you pay the current semester fee on time, even during your leave of absence. You do not need to pay tuition fees for a second degree programme whilst on leave of absence.
An approved leave of absence is valid for one semester. If you require a further semester, you must reapply for a leave of absence. As a rule, a leave of absence may be granted for a maximum of two consecutive semesters. It is not possible to apply for a leave of absence retrospectively for previous semesters.
A semester taken as a break from studies does not count as an additional academic semester. However, the counting of university semesters continues.
During your leave of absence, you must not attend any modules or sit any examinations.
