The Children’s University is a programme run by Worms University of Applied Sciences, aimed at school pupils aged between eight and twelve. Through age-appropriate workshops organised by the university’s three Faculties – Computer Science, Tourism/Transport and Economics – the young participants gain a practical and fun insight into topics such as programming, travel and transport, or economic relationships, whilst getting to know everyday life at the university. The aim of the Children’s University is to spark curiosity and enthusiasm for science at an early age and to give children an initial sense of direction for their own future.
The topics can be so varied
Girls aged between eight and twelve, with no prior knowledge, designed their own websites using colours, text and images, and learnt the basics of HTML and CSS in a fun and engaging way.
Together with the Deutsche Bundesbank, the children checked euro banknotes for their security features by looking at them, feeling them and tilting them.
The children learnt about waste sorting and environmental protection through team competitions, a quiz and practical activities.
