Access for professionally qualified individuals in Rhineland-Palatinate

Have you completed vocational training and would like to go to university? Even if you do not hold a Fachhochschulreife, there are several ways to gain entry to higher education in Rhineland-Palatinate. On this page, you can find out what the requirements are and how the application process works.

To gain direct entry to higher education, your average mark from your vocational qualification examination and vocational school certificate will be taken into account. If this is 2.5 or higher, you will be awarded a subject-independent qualification for entry to universities of applied sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate.

This rule applies only to universities of applied sciences. It is not sufficient for a degree programme at a research university.

If you have passed a master craftsman’s examination in accordance with Sections 45, 51a or 122 of the Crafts and Trades Regulation Act, or a comparable examination, you will also be granted direct entry. This applies to both universities of applied sciences and universities of applied sciences.

Even if you hold a vocational qualification, you must apply via the standard admissions process. Your admission will be determined by your average mark and any waiting period that may apply. There is no guarantee of a place, but with your qualification you have the same chances as all other applicants.

If you are accepted, we will arrange a counselling session with you before you enrol, provided this has not already taken place. We will confirm this session with you in writing. We will explain the next steps to you whilst your application is being processed.
