Entry requirements for applicants with foreign qualifications
If you obtained your qualification abroad, additional requirements apply to you. On this page, you can find out what documents you need and how to submit them.
All German-language degree programmes are taught in German. A good command of German is therefore essential.
If you obtained your university entrance qualification abroad, you must provide evidence of sufficient German language skills. This is stipulated in the Worms University of Applied Sciences’ enrolment regulations. Where possible, please acquire the necessary language skills whilst still in your home country. If possible, please also obtain the relevant certificate there.
We recognise the following certificates for study at Worms University of Applied Sciences:
- German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (DSD) (C1) – Level 2 (particularly for German schools abroad)
We also recognise the following as equivalent:
- German Language Examination for University Admission, Level 2 (DSH 2). Worms University of Applied Sciences does not offer this examination or any preparatory courses. Please find a suitable course in good time, for example at a Goethe-Institut, an adult education centre, a language school or the German department of your university.
- Certificate of the assessment examination in German, taken at a state-run preparatory college
- Language certificates recognised as sufficient by the KMK and HRK through bilateral agreements
- Goethe-Institut’s Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (GDS) C2
- Austrian Language Diploma C2 (ÖSD C2)
- German Language Examination II from the Munich Institute for Languages and Interpreting
- Evidence of a degree in German Studies
- Test of German as a Foreign Language (TestDaF) with an overall score of at least 16 points
- Certificate confirming successful completion of the ‘telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule’ examination
We do not currently recognise the new, combined TestDaF certificate. It shows the best results from several digital TestDaF examinations.
The legal basis for the language proficiency requirement can be found in the Framework Regulations on German Language Examinations (RO-DT) issued by the German Rectors’ Conference and the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs.
The list of registered DSH universities can be found on the website of the Professional Association for German as a Foreign Language.
Important note: We do not recognise certificates that are not officially certified. These include, for example, counterfeit certificates from the DIM (Dolmetscher-Institut Münster, TestDaF) or so-called ‘DSH certificates’ from the Hartnackschule.
Please submit your language certificate via the applicant portal by the end of the application deadline. Conditional admission or provisional admission is not possible without this certificate.
If you are applying for an English-taught degree programme, you do not need to provide proof of German language proficiency.
If you are applying with foreign qualifications, uni-assist will first check your documents. Make sure you arrange this well in advance: processing can take up to eight weeks.
Once your documents have been successfully checked, you will receive a preliminary assessment document (VPD). Please upload this, together with your other documents, to the application portal by the deadline.
Important: The VPD must be issued for Worms University of Applied Sciences and must not be more than one year old.
The following do not require a VPD:
- Applicants who have completed an assessment test or a preparatory college
- Applicants for an Erasmus exchange programme
- Applicants for a Master’s programme whose Bachelor’s degree was obtained in Germany
How to apply for a VPD:
- Gather your documents and have them translated if necessary.
- Register with My assist and enter your personal details.
- Select your preferred semester and Worms University of Applied Sciences.
- Upload your documents to My assist.
- Pay the processing fee.

The Academic Assessment Centre (APS) assesses educational qualifications from China, Vietnam and India. It forms part of the cultural sections of the German embassies and works in collaboration with the DAAD.
Once your documents have been successfully verified, you will receive a certificate. This confirms that your documents are genuine and that your academic achievements are sufficient to study in Germany.
Who needs an APS certificate?
If you are applying with a Chinese, Vietnamese or Indian school or higher education qualification, you will need an APS certificate. This applies to both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes.
Applicants with documents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan do not require an APS certificate.
How do I apply for an APS certificate?
The German Embassy in your country of origin is responsible for this:
- China: Beijing or Shanghai
- Vietnam: Hanoi
- India: New Delhi
Register online on the relevant website: Beijing, Shanghai, Hanoi or New Delhi.
By when must I submit the certificate?
Upload your digitally signed APS certificate to the applicant portal. We cannot process your application without a valid certificate.
