First-year students and current students who are enrolled on a degree programme at Worms University of Applied Sciences may apply for a scholarship, provided that this enrolment is not merely temporary or provisional in accordance with the provisions of the Enrolment Regulations.

Applications must be made for the subject in which you are enrolled as a student at Worms University of Applied Sciences or for which you have applied for enrolment.

The application period for a Deutschlandstipendium for the 2026/27 winter semester runs from

Please note the following:

• Applications not submitted in due time and in the correct form will not be considered in the selection process.
• Click the ‘Apply online’ button on the right to access the application system
• Before you apply, please read the Application Agreement and the Privacy Policy set out in point 4 carefully. You must agree to these by ticking the relevant box in the online application system.
• Point 2 of the application agreement lists the supporting documents you must submit with your scholarship application.
• You may upload or submit supporting documents for your application within the application deadline and only via the online application system – for example, more up-to-date academic transcripts that you may only receive later during the application period. Documents submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

When it comes to awarding Deutschlandstipendien, various timeframes are important:

maximum funding period, funding period and approval period

The maximum funding period for a scholarship is based on the standard duration of study for the degree programme for which the scholarship is awarded to a student.

Within the maximum funding period, the higher education institution sets a funding duration. The funding duration specifies the maximum length of time for which the higher education institution will provide funding to an applicant after they have been selected as a scholarship holder in an award process.

Grant period

The university determines the grant period for a scholarship within the funding period it has set. The grant period is usually one year. This is the period for which scholarship funds are actually awarded and paid out to the scholarship holder. The scholarship holder selected by the scholarship selection committee receives a written notification of award.

Scholarship awards are announced at the start of the respective winter semester, i.e. on 1 September of each year. As the processing of applications takes several weeks and extends beyond this date, the scholarship funds are paid to the selected scholarship recipients with retroactive effect from 1 September.

The scholarship is normally awarded for two semesters. Within this period, the scholarship ends at the end of the month in which the scholarship holder

 1. has taken their final examination,
2. has withdrawn from their degree programme,
3. has changed their field of study, or
4. is de-registered.

If the scholarship holder changes university during the period of award, the scholarship shall end at the end of the semester for which the scholarship continues to be paid in accordance with Section 6(6) or (7) of the ‘Statutes of Worms University of Applied Sciences on the Award of Germany Scholarships’.

Applicants must fulfil the obligations required for the selection process, in particular by providing the information and evidence necessary to assess their suitability and academic performance.

Scholarship holders must immediately notify the university of any changes in their circumstances that are relevant to the award of the scholarship.

Scholarship holders must provide the university with the data required to fulfil their duty to provide information in accordance with Section 13(1)(1) and (4) of the Scholarship Programme Act.

From among the applications submitted in the correct form and within the specified deadline, the Scholarship Selection Committee selects, in accordance with the selection criteria set out in the ‘Statutes of Worms University of Applied Sciences for the Award of Germany Scholarships’, those applications that are eligible for funding. The Selection Committee also uses the same criteria to select further applications which will be considered in the order of priority determined by the Committee should any applications initially selected be subsequently withdrawn or, for other reasons, be unable to be approved.

The following persons are ex officio members of the Scholarship Selection Committee:

1. the President, or a person appointed by the President, as Chair,

2. the Central Equal Opportunities Officer, in an advisory capacity.

3. The following members of the Scholarship Selection Committee are elected by the Senate on the recommendation of the President for a term of two years, and in the case of No. 2 for a term of one year:

              1. three university lecturers (one member per Faculty)

              2. one student,

              3. an academic or non-academic staff member.

If a member leaves office prematurely, a new member shall be elected for the remainder of the term of office. Representatives of private funding bodies may attend the meetings of the Scholarship Selection Committee in an advisory capacity. The quorum for the Scholarship Selection Committee is governed by Section 38 of the Higher Education Act (HochSchG).

The President awards the scholarships on the basis of the selection decision made by the Scholarship Selection Committee for a period of award which is, as a rule, one year.

The award of a scholarship comprises the decision on the award period, the amount of the scholarship and the duration of funding. 

The award is made in writing and is subject to the availability of private and public scholarship funds for the award period. The award notification must include information on the right of appeal.

Payment of the scholarship is conditional upon the scholarship holder being enrolled at Worms University of Applied Sciences. If the scholarship holder changes universities during the approval period, the scholarship will continue to be paid for one semester in accordance with the previous approval. The duration of the semester at Worms University of Applied Sciences shall be decisive. It is possible to apply for a new scholarship at the new university.

Scholarship awards are made at the start of the respective winter semester, i.e. on 1 September of each year. As it takes several weeks to process the applications received, and this process extends beyond this date, the scholarship funds are paid to the selected scholarship holders with retroactive effect from 1 September.

The scholarship is also paid during the lecture-free period and, contrary to the previous paragraph, during a subject-related period of study abroad.

If the duration of your studies is extended for serious reasons, such as a disability, pregnancy, caring for and bringing up a child, or a subject-related period of study abroad, the maximum funding period may be extended upon application.

You may submit an application to extend the maximum funding period within the application deadline. In the online application system, you should submit the application in the ‘Comments on the application’ field and provide your reasons there. Please attach written evidence of your reason for the extension to your application. Only complete applications for an extension, including a statement of reasons and supporting evidence, will be considered.

The scholarship is not paid during a period of leave of absence from your studies. Upon resuming your studies following the leave of absence, the scholarship award period will be adjusted upon notification by the scholarship holder. The period of leave of absence is not counted towards the duration of the grant.

The grant of the scholarship shall be revoked with at least six weeks’ notice to the end of a calendar month if the scholarship holder has failed to comply with the obligation under Section 10(2) and (3) of the Scholarship Programmeor, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Scholarship Programme Act, receives further funding, or if the university determines, upon review, that the requirements regarding suitability, aptitude and academic performance for the scholarship are no longer met. Retroactive revocation of the award is possible, in particular, in the event of double funding, and furthermore in cases where the award is based on false information provided by the scholarship holder.
